After many sad years of not owning a piano, I was delighted when Sara bought me a piano shortly after the new year. I promised to quit smoking (pot included), and for the last month I've been spending a tremendous amount of time re-acquanting myself with old favorites from Chopin and Beethoven. I also happened to find a lovely book of sheet music for the Tom Waits album "Beautiful Maladies" which is a compendium of some of his greatest hits, and in all contains 48 songs. Good times. I've always been a fan of his music, and lately its turned into an almost sickening obsession, but playing the piano can do that to me.
Anyways, I never particularly thought myself kin to the beautiful Scarlett Johansson, at least not until a few days ago. Much to my surprise I learned that I wasn't the only one pondering her music, as she is set to release her first album "Anywhere I lay my head" ( which is a really fun song btw, lovely hobo sentiments) on May 20th. Damn! Bitch beat me to it. And of course she is getting help from Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio, guitarast Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and vocal support from none other than David Bowie. Lucky girl. I guess I will have to pay more attention to her from now on, and I might even check out the record when it comes out (since I think rather highly of both Mr. Bowie and TV on the Radio).
